Seven Commands of Christ 3

Posted on

In part 3 of his series on the seven commands of Christ, Pastor John talks about meditation. One illustration of the importance of meditating on God’s Word starts in Luke 11:24 with the parable about the demon that is expelled from someone but makes things even worse when it returns and finds an empty soul. Meditating on the word fills the vacant space. Another illustration is in Matthew 4 where Jesus goes into the wilderness to fast and be tempted. In each situation Jesus overcomes, not because he can recite scripture but because it’s a part of who he is. Meditation does that.

Seven Commands of Christ

Pastor John Young begins a teaching series on seven things he commanded his followers to do:

  • Repent and believe
  • Baptize new believers
  • Pray and meditate on God’s word
  • Love God, your neighbor and your enemy
  • Partake of the Lord’s Supper
  • Give joyfully
  • Make disciples for Jesus

In part 1, he focuses on prayer and meditation and admonishes that the Enemy is working hard to distract and discourage us.  The main point of Ephesians 6:17-18 about putting on the full armor of God is to prepare us for the combat of prayer.

Before his message, church member Wendy McDermott shares a word of knowledge about faith.

The night that changed everything

The first few minutes of Pastor Zach’s message didn’t get recorded, but in this portion he expounds on the shepherds’ call to “Go, tell it on the mountain that Jesus Christ is born.” He then parallels that commission with the Great Commission that Jesus Christ gave all of his followers to “Go into all the world…” Message delivered 12/17/17.

Together to get there — the conclusion

To walk Together to get to the places in life we are called to is a team effort. It happens through unity in the Spirit, Love for each other, the work and fruit of the Holy Spirit helping us to engage each other in a way that reflects Christ, and self sacrifice. Dying to self is a team sport. We don’t take up our cross alone, we do it together encouraging each other through the journey of life for the glory of God. Message delivered 12/3/17.

In all things give thanks

Posted on

This Sunday (11/26) was a ‘feast’ of giving thanks as Pastor Zach and several others shared testimonies of God’s faithfulness to them over the past year. Not only is God deserving of our thanks but “thankfulness keeps us from forgetting about God’s faithfulness, especially while we are waiting for him to act on our behalf. If we choose to be thankful in all circumstances God will give us peace!”

Wrapping up his “Barriers to Relationships” segment of Together to Get There, Pastor John looks at two more mindsets that, on the surface, seem positive, but really are selfish, focused on staying in control of our own lives and dependent on people as pawns in our strategies rather than surrendering to God, who is the only one who truly has the power to create the peace we desire. Message delivered 11/19/17.
